Today we have been back in Germany for two months. Two months ago we scrambled out of a plane in Frankfort to find ourselves in a stricken country. But since then things have changed a lot and mostly to the better. One of our best ideas was to construct new stairs for the new door behind the house. The fairly straight forward plan contained a quite complicated to get wooden board, which we couldn’t buy anywhere during lockdown. On day 1 of the opening of a certain hardware store in our neighbourhood we bought a 5 m long, 40 cm wide and 4 cm thick wooden board and then it was easy. I am very proud and it looks stunning. The living room is suddenly finished and ready for the furniture to be moved inside. There was lots of driving to the dump, which only took boot-loads during lockdown. Last weekend a guy came to give the old wooden floor a makeover and now it is fabulous! Just as good as before….Der Hang steht noch – aber er wird weniger. The hill behind the house is still there – but it seems to yield slowly. We have been digging for five half days and have almost managed to remove the surplus soil of one third of it. Now there is only some more digging, some more carrying up of cement, rubble, dirt and in the end 9 tons of sandstone to build the wall, which hopefully will contain the hill forever. We will look like ants and have muscles like Hulk in the end….

War halt einfach Pech – ziemlich genau sechs Monate hat es dann doch gedauert.I guess, or rather hope, that this time I have really regained my health again. It took three more visits to specialists and a weird combination of treatments to fix my problems – hopefully for ever now. It would have been very easy to manage this in New Zealand as well. Just bad luck, I guess. Mal sehen! And while watching the first small seedlings grow in the vegetable patch, the international news are getting more and more optimistic. It looks as if in a couple of weeks it might be possible to resume our travels. We will have to find someone else to water the courgettes and pick all those berries or simply come back from time to time. It would be just in time!
